There is a possible thunderstorm in the forecast for tonight. The bad news is that it is not expected to reach the Twin Cities until around midnight. That means tonight is going to be a smoky hell. And it was.
4:15 PM: Very faint grass smoke is blowing in on the breeze. Someone is burning yard waste again. Could the same home be burning yard waste over multiple days? There is a pattern of yard waste burning at this time of day. The smoke was not strong enough to close the windows and it did not last very long. I thought it funny because at this time I was replying to an email sent to me.
5:30 PM: No smoke. 82 degrees and cloudy.
6:30 PM: No smoke. The air is nice and fresh.
7:00 PM: No smoke.
7:55 PM: Faint wood smoke coming and going with the breeze.
8:25 PM: No smoke.
10:00 PM: Moderate to strong wood smoke. Extremely smoky air! You cannot breathe this toxic poison filling our air. You get sick to your stomach! Two homes within a block or so of us are burning wood right now and the heavy smoke is blanketing the area. I think one is burning brush that they had piled in their fire pit. It is going to be a long smoky night.
10:35 PM: Moderate to strong wood smoke continues. Thunder can be heard at this time. A thunderstorm is moving in.
11:00 PM: No smoke at this time.
11:15 PM: Faint to light wood smoke. The clouds are flashing with lightning like a strobe light.
Midnight: No smoke. A few drops of rain have started to fall.
We woke up to fresh air because it rained. Without the rain, we would have woken to smoky smoldering air like we have the past two weekends.
