Tuesday 05/31/2011 Air Pollution

More yard waste and wood burning this evening.

5:00 PM: There is a very faint trace of some type of smoke in the air. It is not strong enough to determine its type. 71 degrees, mostly cloudy and very windy at this time.

6:55 PM: Light grass and wood smoke varying with the wind. The house smells like burning grass now. Do you want the inside of your home smelling like burning grass? It is still very windy at this time but that is not enough to discourage yard waste burners in this city. Close the windows.

7:10 PM: Light wood smoke at this time. There is only one household I know of that burns wood with yard waste. I do not know if that house is the culprit and I am not driving around to check.

7:30 PM: No smoke. The burning stopped or the wind shifted direction. It is very windy and the wind blows every which direction.

There was no more wood or yard waste smoke this evening. Thankfully. We slept with the windows open tonight. That's a huge risk in North St. Paul because it is not uncommon for someone to start a bonfire late at night. Waking up a 1 AM to a house reeking of wood smoke is not pleasant. That has happened to us more times than it should have. North St. Paul is a horrible place to live.
